MUDON: Two million expatriates live in 330,000 apartments

MUDON Group revealed that the number of private and investment housing premises increased to more than 173.5 thousand by the end of 2022, inhabited by about 4.74 million citizens and expatriates representing about 81% of the total number of the premises in state of Kuwait, estimated at 215 thousand premises roughly.
The report issued by the group based on the data issued by the Public Authority for Civil Information which revealed that the number of investment housing premises (residential buildings) has risen to about 12.5 thousand buildings comprising about 400 thousand apartments, with an average of 32 apartments in the building, inhabited by at least about two million expatriates, representing about two-thirds of the number of expatriates, taking into account that the majority of house keepers and drivers reside with Kuwaiti families in private housing, in addition to the non-Kuwaiti families in private housing premises and non-Kuwaiti employees in farms and some other production premises.
The data denote an increase in the density of investment housing premises with an average of 154 persons in the building and 6 persons in one apartment, considering (about 70,000 vacant apartments), i.e. 330,000 residential apartments, and the high densities in collective housing premises for security personnel and corporate employees.
The report pointed out that while private housing premises were distributed over the six governorates of Kuwait in close proportions, investment housing premises, which are mostly inhabited by non-Kuwaitis, witnessed a relative concentration in a limited number of governorates, where Hawally came in first place with a share of 43%, then Alahmadi in second place with a share of 25%, afterwards Farwaniya in third place with a share of 21% and a total share of 89% for the three governorates. Accordingly, the said three governorates accounted for a share estimated at 74% of the total Number of non-Kuwaiti population in Kuwait.
